How to create a Personal Development Plan

All of us have plans for our lives if not plan for directions in which you want to go. A personal development plan allows you to clarify the plants and their direction to your life. Writing a personal development plan is an exercise in identifying, clarifying and recording your innermost most motivations, desires and goals.

Why is a PDP important?

Personal Development plan allows you to anchor yourself to a direction which makes every step that you take worthwhile and meaningful. Being directionless in life can be a horrible feeling and can lead to a lot of anxiety distress and also escapism. Some people even feel a lack of meaning in their lives if they have no clear plan on what they want to do and what they want to achieve. 

Some people argue that having a plan can restrict you. while it is true that if the plan that you make is very rigid and its not revised based on the changes in situations, it can be a self defeating effort. Instead, if you view plans as only directions in which you desire to grow and develop then you would be willing to change and be flexible. If situations and the contexts  in your life change you are ready to change as well. For example for a 20 year old bachelor,the plans may be quite different than say for a 40 year old who has a family and work responsibilities.

When you transition from one phase to another, the plans, they also change and this is absolutely ok. Clarifying plans and ensuring that they are aligned with your goals keeps you focused and helps you gain a clarity like no other. This  leads to better performance at your work and greater enjoyment in life. Most of us want to lead meaningful lives and achieve meaningful goals  but as years pass by and we find that we have not achieved much, we start feeling stuck. 

Having a personal development plan created can be an insightful experience and helps you get career focus  and level clarity at the emotional level. in here to focus your emotions and manage your emotions to achieve the goal II set. personal phone plans and not developed overnight for the sake of developing them. this diffuse centre purpose of it. spending enough time at the various steps thinking deeply and critically reflecting on decisions made in the past and that have let you hear and the decisions that I am making now that will guide you to your future is extremely important for the effectiveness of a person development plan.

Components of a good personal development plan

Self assessment– This includes assessment of the various skills and attributes that one has

Current situation analysis -examining the current situation in terms of current designation qualifications experience. This step is important before going to the next step which is setting goals

Future goals analysis– Analyzing goals, clarifying the intentions behind the goals and identifying how they will fit in with your career direction is done here.

Identifying areas of development – Once your direction and goals are ready it becomes imperative to identify what are the gaps that you need to cover to ensure that you reach the goal

Identifying challenges and devising ways to overcome them– Whenever you are trying to achieve a goal you tend to face challenges identifying possible challenges before hand and trying to device ways to overcome them is crucial in in achieving a goal

Putting together a plan -Putting have it all together in a comprehensive and well designed plan is the next step
