Intrigued, Alexander went to the where the knot was tied and after some deliberation, took out his sword and cut the knot. That was the end of the speculation. This showed how much of an ‘out-of-the-box’ thinker he was. He was clever, creative and knew his strengths well.

He was confident of his physical abilities. His intelligence was highly developed. It was tempered with virtues of honor, compassion, loyalty and leadership. It is said that after the battle King Darius fled leaving his mother, wife, son and daughters behind. Alexander ensured that they were taken care of with dignity and honor that was deserving of royalty.

Leadership

As a leader he put himself in harm’s way and was at the forefront of each battle. He inspired courage and strength in his followers and was able lead them through his vision for the glory of Macedonia. His followers were loyal to him and trusted him to lead them into battle,no matter how tough the odds seemed.

Relations

Influence of his Mother Abernathy was pronounced in Alexander’s life. He was very protective about his mother and this in fact, had repercussion on his relationship with his father as well. He was resentful of his father marrying many times, and felt that a great injustice was done to his mother. He was driven to outdo his father’s achievements. He was known to respect and honor his enemies. After the conquest of King Porus in battle he asked the king how he would like to be treated, and King Porus said: “Treat me like a King would treat another”. Alexander was impressed by this statement and treated King Porus with all honor and dignity.

Vices

His one vice was drinking, and that is said to be the cause of his downfall. He was quick tempered and seen as rash by many. t is said that in a state of drunkenness he killed his close friend Cleitus and was devastated by the act.

Other than these there were very few vices that he had.

Alexander the Great was not only a great leader and conqueror, he was also a man who tried to live a virtuous and noble life. He deserves respect and adoration for his attempt to live and die gloriously.
